CHASSIS

During the 1950's and 60's the sidecar was popular as practical transport for the small tradesman. Obviously the availability of small vans have replaced the need to a certain extent. However the sidecar still offers a unique opportunity for a small trader who needs to carry relatively few tools to and from local jobs. You will certainly be remembered when you arrive on a motorcycle and sidecar. We can not possibly produce a sidecar that fits every possible need, but we would love to see the sidecar become popular again as an everyday working vehicle.

The CHASSIS is the same chassis, suspension and wheel used on the Velorex UK sidecars and therefore strong enough to carry most loads up to 150 kg. It is the perfect starting point for anyone wishing to produce a individual sidecar body to their own design.

Popular trade uses for one off sidecar are sign writers, gardeners, mobile car valeters, chimney sweeps, boiler maintenance, mobile windscreen repairs and many more.

The CHASSIS is also the ideal starting point for anyone wishing to produce a luggage sidecar for touring.

IMPORTANT MEASUREMENTS

The maximum width of flat bottomed box that can be fitted to the CARGO sidecar chassis platform is 450 mm. It looks like it should be slightly more, but there are two important mounting eyelets on the motorcycle side of the chassis. If the box is shaped to avoid the eyelets it could be made wider. There are 4 built in mounting plates with 12 mm holes to take M12 bolts. The distance between the front two and the rear two is 740 mm and the distance between the left hand bolt holes and the right hand bolt holes is 290 mm.

Suitable motorcycles include but are not limited to, Ural 650/750, Jawa 350, Royal Enfield 500, Triumph Bonneville, Triumph Scrambler, Yamaha XS650, Kawasaki W650, most British bikes and many Japanese cruisers. There are many many more, but this list should give an idea of the type of traditional frame needed for simple fitment.
